Annapurna Base Camp, also known as Annapurna sanctuary, is one of the most sought treks in Nepal which is known for its unique Gurung culture, Himalayan vistas, and diverse flora and fauna. There are very few treks in Nepal that take you so close to the base camp of 8000 meters plus peak in such a short period like Annapurna Base Camp Trekking Guide. It takes 7 to 14 days to complete the ABC trek depending on the route and walking hours per day.
The best time to trek Nepal is during two seasons: autumn (September – November) and spring (March-May). Both seasons are recommended as the best trekking season in Nepal as you can get the most out of your adventure in terms of scenic views, avoid heavy rainfall, warm days, and the best weather.
Below is the seasonal guideline for Annapurna Base Camp Trek
October – November
October – November is the most peak season to trek Nepal. It is the time after monsoon season when everything is refreshed, washed clean, and vibrant. The weather is warm, even above 3,00m and views of the mountains are usually stunning and clear. The temperature goes down below freezing level but the night skies are still filled with a billion stars. Because of its popularity, it is the busiest time in the Annapurna route, so better to teahouse in advance.
December – February
This is a great time for those who are content with cold weather in the Himalayas. The daytime temperature is cool and the temperature will get below zero depending on the altitude. At over 5,000, Thorong La Pass is often covered with snow and will close for days on end when this happens. We suggest you go for Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek with Annapurna Base Camp Trek in winter if you are okay with cold weather.
March-May
(March-May) is the second most popular trekking season in the Annapurna region. By April, the snow and cloud dissipated, leaving the views crystal clear. A strange fog appears over the ring of the peaks during May, however, as you reach high altitude, the view becomes crystal clear.
July – September
July – August is the monsoon period in the Annapurna region. It is best for keen botanists who has an interest to explore the diverse floral species in the Annapurna region. Trekking in Monsoon is far less crowded, so it is best for those who want to enjoy some alone time with nature. Upper Mustang Trek is the best monsoon trek in Annapurna region.
